Prince of Persia® The Shadow and the Flame App Reviews

I cant really call this a "remake," because while the gameplay is similar to the original game, its different enough that it can stand on its own merits. This is actually a plus for the game. I enjoy that its an update in many ways and not just an update of the graphics. I think any fan of the original 2-D Prince of Persia games as well as fans of the more recent ones would enjoy it.

Such a good game, just one thing that unsatisfied me is the story, the story is very interesting but short, if ubisoft release some sort of story DLC i would be happy to buy it

I was a PoP fan since its very first release in 1989 by Jordan Mechner and now Im glad that I have the chance to revive my childhood moments by playing this game on my iPhone. Better graphics, different levels and traps but still the same concept. Admittedly its a pretty cool platformer. There are two control schemes to choose from. Although the gesture-based controls may become frustrating in certain situations, I prefer it over the old-fashioned combination of buttons and joystick. Another great addition to the classic game is that you can pick up where you left off after getting killed as long as you have enough potions. There are some IAPs but fortunately theres no need to buy anything as you earn them in game later.

I enjoyed the original release in 90s for both prince and prince2 and after seeing prince of persia retro on ipad was really awaiting the sequel to be re released. Very disappointed that it is a completely different game attempting to make money on the prince of persia name. The game is different, levels are different and everything is designed to squeeze microtransaction money. Still hoping the original prince 2 game is released in the future similar to prince retro a while earlier.

Im extremely disappointed in this game. The Good: I expected the play control to be a little different due to the touch environment, but I was able to get used to those differences after a while. The sound and graphics are decent. The Bad: The puzzles are weaker. The combat is less fun because all you do is wait for the enemy to hit hard, so you can do a combo on him. The levels are missing ALL the components that made the original fun and suspenseful. Skeletons that dont die: gone. Losing your sword as you try to escape the collapsing bridge: gone. Fighting screaming heads that are actually hard to kill with half a sword or less: gone. Turning into a shadow and sneaking past guards: gone. Flaming sword: gone. Game of cat and mouse against Jaffar at the end: gone. I feel like the people who made this game never even played the original. They should be utterly ashamed. They ruined a classic for a generation.

Overall, this game is really good. It has a wide variety of area, and is just plain awesome.

When they came out with classic POP HD. I hoped they would give POP 2 the same treatment. This comes close. POP Classic HD felt much more like the original. Updated graphics but identical level design and more nimble movements for the prince. This one comes short. Combat is dumbed down. Level design is made too simple (set off a trap - thats ok, you can usually avoid it easy enough, Miss a crucial jump - thats ok, youll usually survive and easily enough find another way around). Revives take away all sense of danger. The original had voice acting - this one doesnt. The original actually had better cutscenes to tell the story. And the gameplay felt more cinematic. For example - on the first level you actually had to jump onto a moving boating. On this one, the boat is idle waiting for you to climb aboard. Still though, its still similar enough to the original to bring some nostalgia.

Great game, but too short, would love to have more levels.

Graphics are great. Very immersive levels and beautiful character animations. The game itself is not really a challenge. Theres no skill required to defeat your opponents and it doesnt get any harder in later levels. Just more repetition. Plot it paper thin too.
